Child of light is a new turn based JRPG crated by Ubisoft. With its incredible art design and intuitive combat system, this game should not be overlooked. You play as Aurora, a princess who wakes up in a strange land named Lemuria. With the land taken over by darkness, its up to Aurora to save it and get back to her father. Along the way you will meet various party members that will help you out with your journey. These party members include a firefly named Iniculus, a jester who doesn't know how to rhyme, a money loving mouse, and many others.
One of the first things to note about child of light is the amazing graphics. The whole world looks like a water color painting come to life and each and every environment is breathtaking to say the least. The world itself is vast, and Aurora obtains the ability to fly early on, leaving the player free to explore every inch of it in search of collectables, treasure chests that hold helpful items, and stardust, items that boosts the stat of a chosen party member permanently.
The gameplay as stated before is a turn based combat system with a twist. The player can choose to attack, use an item, or flee a battle, but at the bottom of the screen is a timeline that determines who is going to go first. The player can use their firefly companion to blind the enemy, slowing them down on the timeline. If the enemy gets hit before they can pull of an attack, they get interrupted and set back on the timeline. This can also happen to the player, so it is important to use Iniculus to your advantage so you can slow the enemy effectively rendering them unable to attack.
The only problem I had with the game is that when the jester character failed to rhyme, someone in the group would correct her. This happens every single time and it gets annoying after a while, but this is such a minor complaint it’s hardly even worth mentioning. Nevertheless, Child of light is an amazing game. The graphics are amazing, the combat is fun and easy to learn, leveling up never fells like a grind, and the music is incredible. While playing through the game I found myself not wanting to stop. Just flying around listening to the music and searching for collectables is the most fun and relaxing time I've had in a video game in a while. If you are a new comer to RPGs or don't play them, but want to start than this is your game.
